{"id":1480,"date":"2019-07-01T01:34:55","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T01:34:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ambassadors.ucsiuniversity.edu.my\/?p=1480"},"modified":"2019-07-01T04:03:32","modified_gmt":"2019-07-01T04:03:32","slug":"self-care-x-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambassadors.ucsiuniversity.edu.my\/index.php\/2019\/07\/01\/self-care-x-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Self-Care x University"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\">It\u2019s been a while since I published my blog.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\">Truth be told\nwith the heat from my midterms, assignments and lectures from my current course\nload. I had thought one blog post a week wouldn\u2019t be too much to handle. But\nalso me, I just wasn\u2019t feeling it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\">I haven\u2019t been my usual positive self lately. With all that life\nhas to offer, the unexpected twists and turns, you may not always feel like\nyourself too. So how about we take some time out and just zone in on self-care\ntoday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Self-care: Actions and attitudes which contribute to the maintenance of well-being and personal health as well as promote human development so as to be the best version of yourself.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\">At most we prioritize work and achievements. If \nyou\u2019re like\nme, you have the tendency to do everything because you can. That feeling\n of accomplishment I get from ticking items off the to-do\nlist never gets old. Once you feel the burnout point then it\u2019s time for a\n little introspection.\nIt can be extremely gratifying getting things done, slaying in life and \nall.\nBut as long as you get home completely worn out, you\u2019re probably low-key\nletting go off the things that matter, of most value i.e. a healthy \ndiet, exercise\nand spending time out with friends and loved ones, you might end up \nfeeling\nresentful, unfulfilled, mentally and physically exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\">It\u2019s definitely not selfish to practice a bit of self-care\nhere and then. Can you really look out for others if you\u2019re not well? On the\ncontrary, taking time to oneself goes an extra mile. I can assure you a great\ndeal of success and results in the long run, because that\u2019s what we all want as\nstudents, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\">Here\u2019s a compilation of ways I think one can practice self-care\nas a university student. I\u2019ve laid my focus more on mental self-care, but the\nlist is not definite. We all have different preferences and in the end it\u2019s up\nto you to find what best suits you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><em>Strive as much as possible to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night (8 would be ideal, but you can work your way up)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Cut down on processed foods (At least once during the day focus on filling your plate with several colors, vegetable, fruits and some sort of protein)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Watch your caffeine and sugar intake<\/em><\/li><li><em>Level up your water intake (This will flush out some of the toxins in your body so that you don\u2019t feel so sluggish during the day)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Grab a book you\u2019ve been dying to read and immerse yourself in it<\/em><\/li><li><em>&nbsp;Listen to your favorite playlist, dance and sing along<\/em><\/li><li><em>Do absolutely nothing for a while, let yourself listen and feel. (That\u2019s what mindful meditation is about)<\/em><\/li><li><em>&nbsp;Meet up with some close friends and talk it out<\/em><\/li><li><em>Cuddle, hug someone. It could be your friend or your pet <\/em><\/li><li><em>&nbsp;Plan a trip (Whether you decide to go or not)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Go shopping, pamper yourself much<\/em><\/li><li><em>&nbsp;Go off social media for a while <\/em><\/li><li><em>&nbsp;(Not for everyone, but backed by science) Have sex.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\" class=\"has-small-font-size\">Yes, that\u2019s a bonus, because I found it in an article and we\u2019re\nall grown-ups here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>Self-care Affirmation: I love the process of becoming who I am (and unbecoming who I am not) I let go, I pick up, I stumble, I rise, I flow.
