You’ve Got a Friend in Me

Our friendship is not about a big thing, it is a million little things.

Someone who knows us well, other than family; someone we spend most of the time with; someone we can count on when the need arises and someone we remember all the time although we are far apart from each other- Friends.

Corresponding with International Friendship Day, 30th July, this post pays tribute to my friends. Friend, a gift that we give to ourselves. Most of us have friends, at least one friend, but do we really sit down and think whether they really matter to us more than other people we meet and interact or are they just meant to be passers-by in a different way?

Friendship is a relationship where no any blood relation exists. Friendship is the purest form of relations among two or more people. Camaraderie is mutual trust and understanding among friends. Friends are people whom we turn to when our spirits need a lift and our soul needs rest. I am so lucky and blessed to have such gang of friends that accompany and keep my spirits up throughout my hard time.

There is no doubt a friend adds some colour and light to your life. My friends do. “Eight wonders”- The WhatsApp group name, consists of eight people. Each of us shine bright like a diamond. After graduating from secondary school, we were forced to separate through different channels. Some of us chose matriculation, some chose private university and some of us opted for government university. Although we were miles apart from each other, nothing will ever change the feeling of love between us.

True friends are never apart maybe in distance but never in heart.

I love the way we are crazy. My friends like being crazy. They make me smile, they shape my characteristics and most importantly, they are with me through thick and thin. They were my source of laughter during university life. When I feel I am lost, I have them. We did the course selection together at midnight, we struggled and suffered on the assignment together and we shared our stories together. I do not need to wear any mask when I am with them. They know me, the real me without any cover and make up. They know who I am, and thus accept me being “me”. Friends stand by for you and lend their shoulders when you need a someone to lean on. They understand you and they know your weaknesses.

Finally, we saw the waterfall.

Friends help you conquer your fear and difficulties. Friends will not leave you alone and we fight for same goal. Together, we can do it. Travel is not easy. We are forced to navigate through unknown lands and be careful due to unforeseeable circumstances. Spending 9 hours from 7am to 4pm, my friends and I conquered Bukit Apek, located in Cheras Awana Kuala Lumpur. Now, we own our special moments.

If they are some people in life that make me laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger and live a bit better, they will be my dearest friends. So, please, I hope they will not be hurt by this world either way.

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart
