Series Review (A treasure of a Lifetime)

Hey Readers !

This time I would like to do a review on a series I recently watched and I’m sure that you’ll spare some time to watch it too. Manmadha Bullets (It’s a Tamil Language series but as I tell you the reasons on why I was determined on doing a write-up.

Firstly, the series was shot at UCSI University. As I watched the series myself, I learned this myself. The library, the Block A student lounge and the pavement which unites the library and Block A had were the shooting spots. Hats off to the cameraman as the beauty of our KL campus was showcased in the series.

  1. The library was used for the introduction scene of one of the heroines (Santeinii Chandra Bos) as the narrator describes her personality.
  2. The Block A student lounge was used to shoot a scene where the main characters (6 of them) would hang out there. They would also have a meeting which would blow up into an argument.

Opps.. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you guys about the series itself. I would start on the meaning of the title itself. So, Manmadha means cupid (as you would’ve noticed in disney movies, he is a small , cute looking guy holding an arrow, but according to this story , the arrow has been replaced by bullets due to evolution. If I had known that the cast and crew were on board at the shooting spot, firstly I would’ve done anything to interview them, but then because Mr.Covid came into the picture, I couldn’t do so. So instead I would like to quote the official interview of Manmadha Bullets Series conducted by astroulagam. At the start of the interview, all the cast and crew mentioned that this series is a stress reliever, a new concept bringing in a modified version of cupid ,eventhough the content is fictional but people can still connect through the emotions and this series has potrayed the importance of love not only between couples but then between friends and also family.

This new era rom-com was directed by Martin R. Chantheran. I would say this talented filmmaker has turned the tables around for the entire Malaysian Tamil industry by giving a new perspective for love. The story starts by the scene led by a high tech cupid which called himself the God of Love (Madhan played by Thevaguru Suppiah). He was assigned a task to make 6 targets find their true love . He was under a desperate situation because if he fails to complete the mission , the management would terminate the Love department.

According to the movie ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before : Lara Jean Always and Forever’, Peter Kavinsky had mentioned that all rom-com stories have a meet-cute (which means the first meet of that particular couple). Bringing the same concept into the picture, I noticed that all the 3 pairs have a meet-cute.

  1. Swathi (played by Santeinii Chandra Bos) & Krishna (played by Ravin Rao Santheran) – Their meet-cute was when Krishna vouches for his friend and unexpectedly gets attracted to Swathi
  2. Bhavani (played by Hamsni Perumal) & John (played by Vicky Rao) – Their meet-cute was my favourite whereby they start arguing over a petty issue
  3. Rebecca (played by Kavitha Sinniah Kovendra) & Gautham (played by Shabby) – Their meet-cute started when mishaps between Madhan and Ambu (his assistant ) goes wrong where Rebecca falls for Gautham but then he opens has feelings for Bhavani and comes to her house to confess.

In an interview the cast gave given a brief description on their characters which showed how involved they were and how well they understood their roles. This will show in their acting as you watch the series.

A description about them coming right away

Gautham – A typical college guy whom has alot of dreams but loses hope very fast

Bhavani – A bold and independent girl who has a soft spot as well

Swathi – A girl who got ready to sacrifice her dream job for the sake of her family and the society. She likes to help everyone but herself which is where the love of her life plays his role.

John – Harsh on the outside but soft on the inside which is showed by most men

Rebecca – Portrays that the real happiness is from the social media world . She sees social media as a medium to divert herself from the trauma and drama happening in her life. A person who yearns for true love or to be more specific , a non-judgmental relationship.

Krishna – Portrays leadership skills but has his own sorrows , which he prefers not to share. Likes to flirt with girls which he sees as a temporary escape from his misery

I personally thank each and every one of you who have been a part of this series. I would say that I’m more than honoured to write a review for Manmadha Bullets. I watched the entire series from 10pm until 4am with my mum. At first, I assumed it to be a normal rom-com story but then the twists and turns made me decide at one point that I shouldn’t assume the story flow but enjoy it as it goes or to say it in a better way (“We shouldn’t focus on the destination but the journey” – Quoted from Madhan (Thevaguru Suppiah).

Thank you so much once again and my non-Indian readers please watch this series as subtitles are available. I’m sure the today’s generation will love it as the story has already attracted the older generation. I’ve learned the importance of relationships and we shouldn’t take any relationship for granted . During this quarantine period, this series makes us feel that we are nothing without our loved ones: be it friends, family or companion. With Love your fangirl, Sobitha Luxshmi. I wish all of you (Vicky, Hamsni, Kavitha, Thevaguru, Ravin, Santheinii and Shabby) ALL THE BEST.
