3 Restaurants and A Food Truck Recommendation Around UCSI that Provide Vegetarian Choices

Majestiq Cafe
7′ Margherita Pizza

Majestiq cafe – Hidden at the bustling Taman Connaught, prevails a homely and snuggly ambience. When you visit Majestiq Cafe, you will find an assortment of Western dishes such as Italian pasta, pizza, sandwiches, homemade soup and more. While there’s a plethora of food choices offered, the vegetarian options provided are quite limited. After skimming through the menu, you’re far more likely to find the fewer-than-the-fingers-on-one-hand amount of vegetarian options than not. Majestiq Cafe after all does not vision to serve the vegetarian community. Despite that, the food served is exceptional. Case in point: The seven-inch Margherita Pizza (RM13). The crisped crust is topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and basil. This simple and classic dish gives you the authentic taste of food.

Spicy Era Restaurant

Spicy Era Restaurant

If you’re one of the legions who thirst for spicy food, here is where you can quench your taste buds with some tongue-tingling spices. Spicy Era Restaurant is merely two blocks away from the UCSI KL campus. Placed at the self-service area, the huge array of raw food awaiting to be picked are the ones you will find when feasting on the common typical Chinese hotpot – including lotus root, cabbage, mushrooms, fungus, broccoli, noodles, tofu, beancurd and more. Vegetarians and those wanting a meatless option will be thrilled to select whatever combination they want and eat to their heart’s content. This is how your food will be charged: every 100g of raw food chosen will be charged for RM5. This is how it works: pick your combination of food. Then select your level of torture from low, medium to very. Your selection of combinations will then be passed onto the hands of the chef where your food will come out strongly infused with Sichuan pepper and chilli – which will leave your tongue feeling numbed yet ecstatically addicted.

Day and Night Canteen

I suppose anyone will love some scrumptious food served in generous portions that don’t cost the moon. Day and Night Canteen which received outstanding praises on Google Review has done a great job in catering to vegetarians. Although there are only three vegetarian dishes on the ‘vegetarian food’ section of the menu, you will still be able to find more vegetarian dishes which overlap with the ‘house signature dishes’ and ‘side dishes’ features – such as fried mixed vegetables, Thai style tau fu, and crispy vege spring roll. While it may be tempting to opt for these mentioned dishes, it’s more rewarding to try out the vege fried rice (RM 8.90) and the crispy vege spring roll. The moment you feast on the fried rice, you will be amazed by the intense ‘wok-hei’ aroma that will fill your mouth which will leave you craving it for days after devouring it. The crispy vege spring roll is also a satisfying option. The outer is deep-fried to crisp while the inside is crowded with shredded vegetables. Although it comes in a generous amount, I’m sure you will cheerfully finish it in no time. Big eaters will be thankful for the great portions and the worthy price level.

Caca Lo Food Truck
Original Sushi Roll

Caca Lo Food Truck

Standing right outside the UCSI KL campus is the Caca Lo food truck with a selection of localised sushi and popiah rolls – namely original, curry, wasabi, wakame, black pepper sushi or popiah roll. First-timers are highly recommended to try the classic original sushi roll (RM6) – which is also known to many as the sushi popiah roll. Get the seaweed salad popiah roll and you will get a taste of the crunchiness and sweetness of sweet turnip, the freshness of carrot, the juiciness of cucumber, appetising vegetarian floss, and also mayonnaise sauce enveloped in a thin popiah skin and crispy seaweed. It’s a perfect option for anyone who is looking for a meatless, veggie dish which is nutritious and refreshing at the same time.
