UCSI STUDENT AMBASSADOR INDUCTION DAY

24th May, Friday was the red letter day for the new Student Ambassadors to be recognised and inducted to the UCSI Student Ambassador Team. Induction Day is essential to any student’s successful transition to the next step of the Scholar Enrichment Programme (SEP).

To those who is wondering about what Scholar Enrichment Programme (SEP) is and what it does, SEP is actually a programme every scholarship recipient of UCSI University Trust to voluntarily contribute effort and time to be involved in the UCSI University Trust and the UCSI University’s various programmes and community projects. This SEP comprises of three levels, similarly to SEP100, SEP200, and SEP300 respectively, whereby UCSI Student Ambassador Programme falls under the second level (SEP200) after the students have developed necessary knowledge, values, and skills during the first stage of SEP.

All members new to the UCSI Student Ambassador Programme were required to attend Induction Day as it is their opportunity to become more familiar with one another, meet teammates, and learn about involvement opportunities that will enhance their experience in becoming UCSI Student Ambassadors.

With great objectives to allow current students studying at UCSI University to (i) connect and share their UCSI experience with prospective students, (ii) learn invaluable new skills, (iii) create their own online branding, and (iv) represent UCSI University on a public platform, this programme which is originally event based, was revamped during the end of 2018. Three different modules, namely the Digital Content Ambassadors, Social Media Ambassadors, and Event Ambassadors, are established and led by three student representatives under the supervision of the UCSI Group Corporate Affairs (GCA), Student Enrolment Centre (SEC), and Trust Office.

Student ambassadors of each module carry roles that are equally vital and important as they are the representative of Malaysia’s Top 1 Private University. Firstly, Digital Content Ambassadors as content creators are needed more than ever in today’s digital universe, and who else to chronicle the Student Ambassadors journey, the University, and influence the world if not the Digital Content Ambassadors. Secondly, in an era of Information Age, Social Media Ambassadors are crucial in handling the social media tools, giving visibility to the whole Student Ambassadors in creating and planning content. Last but not least, Event Ambassadors who are the face of the University during events, embody the University and carries a huge responsibility in presenting and guiding the public in how UCSI is presented.

He or she must be courteous and polite at all times, portray the ‘willing to serve’ mentality and be equipped with strong observation and communication skills, and the ability of critical thinking and problem solving, besides having proper grooming and attire.

“You are not just a student helper!” quoted from Mr Mushamir, one of the person-in-charge for UCSI Student Ambassador Programme.

In recognising the members’ effort, Student Ambassadors are to receive the Student Ambassador Award after completing the 3 modules which last for a total of 3 semesters (One module to last 1 semester). At the end of their programme, a Student Ambassador is to recommend and recruit a junior candidate for the next round of the Student Ambassador intake to ensure sustainability.

Besides the award, the highlights of this programme include the exposure to a wider social circle, be it through the social media, microsite, or face-to-face meeting with people from all around the world due to the passports to exclusive events like Palm Oil Student Ambassador Programme with YB Teresa, Sustainable Development Goals Week as well as the Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) Symposium Malaysia.

“As the first batch of Student Ambassador after the revamp, mixed feelings arise seeing juniors enrolling into UCSI Student Ambassador Programme, just like how I entered back then. I wish not only they’re able to take with them something by the end of the programme, but to leave great footprints for the others’ lives, ” Hazel, the leader of Digital Content Creators claimed.
