Celestial Cultural Night

Fig: Cultural Night Festival

21 January 2022 marks the day of the “Celestial” Cultural night organized by the UCSI Chinese Cultural Club. I felt proud to be one of the committee members in this event and help out throughout the process. This event creates opportunities to get familiarity and interact with unfamiliar people. This event can be counted as a musical event and it is located in UCSI Le Quadri Hotel 11th floor. The event is an amalgamation of music, drama, and entertainment which was one of the best events organized by UCSI Chinese Cultural Club. Due to the restriction of sop Covid-19, our club had followed with the sop such as each audience must sit separately and needed to scan their temperature and show Mysejahtera status to our staff before this event started. Around 600 audiences are participating in this event and their entrance admission is based on the coupon they purchased before or during the day. A lot of preparation needs to be done before the event and I will mention them in the following paragraph .

Before the day, we did attend meetings for a few days to discuss how the event will be going on and every committee should attend to follow up with the progress. 12 and 19 January 2022 was the day for our physical meeting and it holds at 8 pm night in UCSI University. Throughout the meeting, we knew about our position and responsibility so that our work could be done smoothly. Besides, there is a booth event which is used to promote our event as well as attract people to join our event. People who are interested to join our event can purchase at the booth or from our committee members. We did set up a ticket counter during the day so that they can walk in to purchase it. The social media platform is one of the platforms that used to promote our event such as Facebook, Instagram, etc as people use social media frequently. For the booth, we organized for around 4 days from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and some of our committees need to be in charge of it. The activities that are ongoing in the booth were unlocking new things, quizzes were related to the history of Chinese culture, and participants can achieve ELE points after joining all these activities.

It’s like finally reaching the day of the event after a few months of preparation. Every committee had to gather at the venue at 9 a.m. to do some preparation. For example, some of us had to arrange the chairs for the audience, some of us decorated the venue and photobooth, some of us also have to do checking of the microphone and technical issues. After completing all these, we rest around midnight take this opportunity to have a lunch break.

The event began at 7:30 p.m. and our president began the event by giving a speech. He mentioned that this event is the hard work of everyone because due to the pandemic, it’s been a long time since a physical event can be organized. This event had been prepared for almost half a year and finally, hard work paid off. After the speech session, the lucky draw was one of the most exciting sessions for the spectators as there were a few presents to be gifted to them. The lucky draw was based on the number of coupons they purchased.

Performances of the day include drama and songs, there were a few songs such as love stories, like the wind by talented singers— Ying Xuan and Kevin. As the song(love story) continued, Ying Xuan began to dance around the stage and interact with her guitarist. They were all smiling and laughing as they played and sang- not so much as to ruin the music but enough that you could tell these people were truly loved music. Following that was the magic performance performed by a famous international magician. It made my heart swell to watch the magic performance. Throughout the night, the audience had been screaming along with the magician. After the show had ended, it came to the last performance of the day which was a drama that was meaningful to everyone. The moral value of the drama was we had to appreciate what our parents had done for us and be respectful. Lastly, committee members of the event stood on the stage and appreciate the audience for joining this event.

This was my first time to be part of a committee in an event and I enjoyed it so much during the process of organizing an event. Hopefully, more events like this will be organized in the future.
