Crashing at the library instead of heading home after class

Have you ever found yourself wandering around, not knowing what to do or where to go after class? Especially since you are required to come all the way to campus, even if it’s only to attend that one class of the day. When you decide to just head home after that, you feel as if most of the day has been wasted. Maybe, since there’s nothing to do at home now, you’ve decided to do some studying or work on your assignments. But… When you’re at home, it’s just too comfortable. Perhaps feeling lazy too, am I right or am I right? You’re probably in your pajamas or t-shirt and comfy pants. After a nice relaxing shower with your freshly washed hair, you just want to lie around and scroll through social media. Can’t seem to get any work done, huh? Instead of wasting your precious time doing nothing, one of the best places to crash and spend your time wisely is at the library.

What is the first word that comes to mind when you hear the word “library”? Could it be ‘books’? Indeed, the library is a space that is filled with books where people do their silent reading. However, it is prudent to know that libraries are more than just books. It is a place that offers a quiet and peaceful area for people to learn, work on other tasks, navigate the internet, and increase their productivity. Needless to say, every campus has its own library, and ineluctably, UCSI University as well.

Now, I realize that generally, when we are in public, we tend to appear to be more disciplined and cautious of our actions and surroundings. We tend to think we are being judged, watched, or observed by others too, and that makes us want to give the impression of being efficient and not lethargic. In a way, this fuels our productivity and we can actually get things done. This is why the library is a good place for us to study and work on our assignments. Not to mention, the quiet and calm environment can lower our stress levels and make us more relaxed while performing our tasks. After being productive for a good amount of time, it’s important to give yourself a short break to loosen up a little. Give yourself a neck massage, stretch your back, watch a funny video, or check if your favorite YouTuber has uploaded any videos today on your subscription page. Little things like that can refresh your mind so that your brain doesn’t get too heavy and foggy.

Speaking of that, I have seen students just watching movies or Korean dramas, online shopping, or even playing games in the library as well. It could be them casually spending their leisure time in the library or just taking a small break in between their work. You might be thinking, “Why don’t they do this at home or outside instead of in the campus library?” Well, some students could be waiting for the shuttle bus to leave at a specific time and need a place to crash. It might be unpleasant for some students to enjoy their favorite shows at home because their parents always nag about them “slacking off”. Isn’t it nice to be able to do what you want or take a break in peace without constantly being criticized?

Our campus library provides and maintains a cozy and relaxing atmosphere for us. There is free internet, computers, quiet zones, discussion rooms, educational resources, and materials available for us to fully utilize. There is also an area full of comfortable sofas for us to rest on when we want to. Instead of loitering around outside, risking your life from COVID, or just staying at home all the time, why not hang around in the campus library? You can get so many of the tasks on your checklist done and have some “me” time without being disturbed. It’s important for us to stay productive so that we don’t lose our momentum, but it is also crucial for us to work at our own pace and take breaks from time to time. For that, the library is the best place to spend your time.
