Continued Mid-Autumn Festival 2019

On 29 September 2019, UCSI University Chinese Cultural Society has organised Continued Mid-Autumn Festival. The event is also called the Mooncake Festival, which is generally celebrated by East Asians. The Mooncake Festival traditionally falls on the 15th day of the 8th Chinese lunar calendar month, which was on 13 September this year.

Why ‘Continued’?

Have you ever wondered about the theme and name of this event? In mandarin, ‘Continued’ is known as 缘续 which means the continuation of fate. The theme of this event was cupid, which focused on pairing strangers together so that they can get a chance to know people outside of their courses.

During the first few weeks before the event, we also had an exhibition booth located at Block A. Participants were required to answer five riddles correctly in order to get 8 ELE points.

The event started (with registration) at 6:30pm and ended at 10:30pm at UCSI Block E ballroom. Participants who have completed their registration then proceeded to either the makeup booth or Wall of Wishes. At the makeup booth, participants received free makeup services from makeup artists sponsored by Sanyu Chen. Those who wanted to make a wish went to the Wall of Wishes, where each wish was written on a piece of paper and posted on the wall.

To add more fun to the event, there were two handsome and pretty cupids on the watch for single boys and girls. Three pairs of “couples” would be chosen among those boys and girls to join the cupid session.

The singing performance began around 7:10pm. The event went on with the Opening Ceremony, where sponsors were introduced such as Kong Fo Cha Malaysia for sponsoring milk tea voucher, JMM Cookies for mooncakes, Big Four Happiness Cookies Co for almond cookies, Sanyu Chen Beauty Makeup & Hairstyle for makeup and hair styling; as well as cash sponsors by Persatuan Belia Xiang Lian Malaysia, Microsystem Cyberwork and 老子文化学习学院.

The Opening Ceremony was followed by a dance performance from UCSI dance club and INTI dance club respectively. There was also B-box performance from MDotAK, which was pretty awesome!

Not missing from the event was a drama session called The New Beginning, which told a love story among a group of secondary students. It did feel like watching a Korean drama on the stage, with every action between the lead actor and actress inciting multiple squeals from among the audience.

The biggest highlight of the evening was the most awaited performance from Ms. Jeii Pong and Mr. Gaston Pong (Pong Pong), which lit up the entire audience. I must say that it was done so professionally on stage. Finally, the event ended dance shows by various committee groups.

Event committees

This was my very first time being a committee for such a huge event. Apart from gaining ELE points, I got to learn how to organise an event, get to know more people and make new friends. It was indeed amazing, to be able to create a strong bond with each other in such a short time.
