Our Unsung Heroes

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a time of reflection for everyone around the world. It is the time we realize a lot of our freedom have been taken away by the virus. Through this, I realized we have actually underestimated the importance of some people who have risked their lives for the sake of our comfort. They not only have to world tirelessly but also be at high risk of getting the deadly covid-19 disease. But nonetheless, they work very hard and never complained.

The unsung heroes that I am talking about are our food delivery drivers. They deliver the food we want no matter day or night, rain or shine. They go through so much hassles just to get food to us. Through this Covid-19 pandemic, I have realized how important these heroes are to us. They play a very important part of our lives especially when we are stuck at home due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Before the Movement Control Order (MCO) was implemented or maybe even before Covid-19 was a worry-some problem to many, food delivery drivers were often underestimated as a low class job. They were always being look downed on due to the nature of its job. We never felt the importance of these people because we were able to get food by ourselves whenever we wanted. After the Movement Control Order (MCO) was implemented, the demand of food delivery services drastically increase as people now have to rely on these people to get them food from restaurants. We can no longer move around like how we used to and we ourselves do not want to go out because of the fear of contacting with the virus.

The jobs of these food delivery drivers is a very risky one. They face the risk of road hazards and now the risk of contacting with the Covid-19 virus. They risk their lives and the lives of their families to meet the increased demand of food delivery just to ensure people get their food. They come into contact with many people everyday. Even with the contactless food delivery implemented, they are still at very high risk as they touch many items in a day.

Food delivery drivers do not earn much. It is considered a low paid job. With the amount of pay they get, they have to go through so much and they are willingly doing it. That really makes them our unsung heroes that is only discovered when we are undergoing a lock down. We only learn to appreciate some people in life when life forces us to.

Through this, it shows us how important our food delivery drivers are to us. They should not be underestimated and looked downed on. They deserve much respect for what they do and who they are. They are our unsung heroes and we should appreciate them. So, next time when you order food from food deliveries, smile at the driver when they deliver your food to you. This small gesture would make them feel appreciated. Another thing you could do is maybe offer them a drink. Some of these drivers work for hours without rest especially during these times of Movement Control Order (MCO). They might not have taken a break to eat or drink. These little deeds can show that we appreciate them and make them feel better. No doubt, these food delivery drivers are OUR UNSUNG HEROES.
